The art and science of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Mountains and streams emerge from me,
and I from mountains and streams.
Lao Tsu
Rima's first journey to Asia as a 14-year-old had a profound effect, and subsequently she spent several years living and travelling in Asia, interacting with its people, cultures and philosophy.
Her intrigue at traditional knowledge and its contemporary application led her to study Chinese Medicine, which is based on Eastern philosophy and world view. Refined over thousands of years, the medicine is defined simultaneously as an art and a science.
Oriental medicine offers people insight and fresh perspective on their health.
‘I view the body as a complex, interactive, dynamic system. We are a microcosm of the larger complex systems observable in nature, and they inspire me. We are not separate. Nor are we just a set of parts. I have been particularly inspired by the concept of “body as a garden”, in contrast to “body as machine”.’
Rima offers a holistic approach to community health, to provide symptom relief, address the underlying causes of dis-ease,and to help optimize the integrity of the individuals system. She works with people of all ages on a wide range of conditions. These include health and wellbeing (such as menstrual cycles, pregnancy care, menopause) and seasonal issues (respiratory conditions like asthma, allergies, colds/flu/coughs), to chronic health challenges (chronic pain, degenerative conditions, and cancer patient support in conjunction with Western medicine).
Her specific interests include paediatrics, women’s health, pain management, eye, ear, nose and throat disorders, skin conditions, endocrine issues, and surgical scar recovery.
Throughout her training and developing practice, Rima has been very grateful for the fabulous mentorship of Helen Mahoney. Now in practice for nine years, Rima is currently studying Japanese acupuncture strategies with Paul Movsessian.
‘I’m nurtured by connection to country, community spirit, collaborative relationships, backcountry skiing mountains in winter, riding my bicycle in the bush, growing food in my garden, my wonderful neighbourhood, creative dance and Ba Gua (Chinese martial arts).
