“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson
Helena is passionate about supporting transformation from pain through physical wellbeing.
Her journey to massage therapy began in her early 20s with the Chiropractic and soft tissue management of two childhood injuries resulting from the extreme sports of horse riding and sailing. These injuries were compounded by the physical demands of a professional career in the events industry. With the birth of her first child in 2002 she became increasingly fascinated with the subtle, somatic, physiological and psychological depths of the human body, choosing to change her career focus in 2005.
She has been practising as a remedial therapist since 2008 in central Victoria and Bristol, England, where she has supported people from all ages and walks of life, from children to the aged, élite athletes to those in convalescence.
Helena utilizes a variety of remedial, relaxation and gentle movement techniques to respond to each clients specific needs including muscle energy technique, myofascial release, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, pregnancy and sports massage.
In addition to her part time work as a remedial therapist Helena holds an eclectic, multidisciplinary toolbox of skills. She is studying a Bachelor of Creative Arts (visual) and Sociology, with her academic studies being increasingly informed by postmodern research approaches to pain and trauma, at both individual and social levels.
“It matters what thoughts think thoughts. It matters what knowledges know knowledges. It matters what relations relate relations. It matters what worlds world worlds. It matters what stories tell stories.” (Haraway, 2016)
Helena has worked internationally in the sectors of social enterprise, education and enterprise, on the streets with disengaged youth, in prisons, schools, aged care homes, gold mines, festivals and corporate mergers, and supported a range of professionals from health practitioners and veterinarians to environmental consultants, mime artists, musicians and thespians.
