Free yourself from muscle pain

Free yourself from muscle pain

Muscle pain is a helpful tool for your body. It’s all in the timing. If you observe it usually comes in two forms. The first will alert you to injury and prevent you from further damaging yourself. Immediate pain is generally a warning. The second is a “healthy” pain experienced after exerting muscles. Pain the next day or two after an activity is your body’s way of saying you’ve used a muscle in a way it’s not used to.

The following three tips can be helpful when the body experiences muscle pain from exertion;

  1. Keep well hydrated, water is your muscles’ friend

  2. Apply warmth to area with hot shower, liniment and heat pack

  3. Gentle movement and stretching, try not to overuse muscles again until they have recovered.

If the body hasn’t recovered after a few days of TLC it’s time to seek further assistance. Pain left unattended can take longer to leave the body and can lead to chronic conditions.

Remedial Massage Therapy can be of great benefit. Warming and unknotting muscle tissue can help you regain strength and flexibility and alleviate pain.

 “Just like a knot in a shoelace, if you take up the slack and push toward the knot, it will unravel more easily” Luann Overmyer

Selina is a Remedial Massage Therapist at Healing Well. She believes massage doesn’t have to be painful to be beneficial. Rather than heavy massage that reaffirms and strengthens pain messages to the brain, Selina works in a way to convey comfort to the body. Calming the nervous system to bring rest and release pain so the body can recalibrate.

Selina draws from a broad range of bodywork techniques including Remedial, Ortho-Bionomy, lymphatic drainage and hot stones to support health and healing. She is available Tuesdays–Fridays.
